Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Gorillas - Buhoma and Ruhija Groups

We tracked the Habinyanja mountain gorilla family in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest near the villages of Buhomaand Ruhija. More details can be found in the photo captions.

My porter, James, carries my camera bag through the steep forest until we're about 200 meters from the gorillas. At that point each person must leave their hiking poles, backpacks, food and water, before encountering the gorillas. The porters come from the local Buhoma community and guiding and portering provides them with a means to make a small income.
