Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Arusha and Nearby Areas

Our first few days in Tanzania started in Moshi, the starting point for many people's treks up Mt. Kilimanjaro. We visited the Kilimanjaro National Park headquarters and a village of the Chagga people at the base of the mountain. We also spent some time exploring the town of Moshi before heading west to the much larger town of Arusha. Our first encounter with wild animals came in Arusha National Park, a small but very memorable park. From there we traveled west through the Masai village of Monduli on our way to our camp site at Monduli Juu. We visited the compound of one of the village partiarchs where we met his wives and children and were treated to a traditional dance. Then, it was back to camp and dinner that featured a goat that was sacrificed in our honor.
